A big, showy evergreen sedge, Carex 'Feather Falls' is driven by hybrid vigor, sizing up faster and larger than traditional sedges. Variegation does not hold this cultivar back. By the second or third season, it fills out garden spaces without being invasive or aggressive.

'Feather Falls' typically reaches two feet high and three to five feet wide, allowing it to anchor a landscape display rather than serving as a minor accent. The plant forms dense clumps that do not spread, using a finely matted root system to secure the soil.

Its wide foliage cascades outward in a fountain of graceful arches, creating a dense cover that naturally suppresses weeds. Visually, the blades show a double rail of creamy white margins surrounding a dark green central stripe.

In spring the cultivar produces feathery plumes. Unlike older carex varieties that require shade, 'Feather Falls' possesses increased sun tolerance. It handles summer sunlight in northern climates without blade burn, though in southern gardens it still requires some shade. Once established, the plant maintains its shape without shearing or trimming. It is also deer and pest resistant, making it suitable for homes near wooded landscapes.
